Did you know there is more than one sign of breast cancer?
Know Your Lemons has created a highly visual tool for the 12 signs of breast cancer, applying these symptoms to lemons.
Women over the age of 40 need to know, 1) that the mammogram is the best way to find breast cancer at an early stage and 2) that it is possible for cancer to develop in-between mammograms. Women under the age of 40 are not eligible for breast cancer screening mammograms unless they are at high-risk of breast cancer. It is important that they know they can get breast cancer and to be aware of its symptoms. Everyone should report any changes to their breasts to their health care provider.
Know Your Lemons has a free app available on the Apple App Store and Google Play App that features:
self-exam audio guides with monthly reminders timed to your body
custom screening plan based on your risk factors
how to identify and report symptoms to your doctor
how to prepare for mammograms, ultrasounds, breast MRI and biopsy
The app is available in English, Spanish, French, German, and Dutch, for all genders.
Know Your Lemons Foundation’s mission is to improve early detection of breast cancer worldwide through creative and empowering education. It was founded in 2014 by Dr. Corrine Ellsworth-Beaumont, a designer who lost her grandmothers and a close friend to breast cancer. She created the #knowyourlemons campaign as an initiative to help improve early detection of breast cancer through symptoms and screening education in a fun, accessible, and inclusive way.
