Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2025

This October marks 40 years of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Since its inception, something remarkable has happened: breast cancer death rates in the U.S. have decreased by 44%. While significant progress has been made due to heightened awareness and increased screening, we must not be complacent. Early detection and equitable access to timely, high-quality care remain paramount.

Knowledge is Power. And so, we want to share a variety of resources with the goal of educating and inspiring life-saving action.

Breast Cancer Facts and Stats (National Breast Cancer Foundation)
Awareness of facts and statistics about breast cancer is key in empowering individuals to make informed decision about their health.

Breast Cancer Videos (American Cancer Society)
Early detection and improvements in treatment have helped millions of women survive breast cancer. The videos in this collection explain breast cancer screening and genetic testing, as well as some of the potential side effects of treatment. There are also personal stories from breast cancer survivors.

Financial Matters, Health insurance and Work (Living Beyond Breast Cancer)
The physical and emotional toll of breast cancer is well known. The financial impact of the diagnosis is often overlooked.

Online Breast Cancer Support Groups (Living Beyond Breast Cancer)
If you or a loved one is diagnosed with breast cancer, you may find a support group helpful, sharing and processing feelings in a safe space. These groups provide a chance to connect with other people going through similar experiences, and they offer opportunities to learn from and help one another. Support groups may meet in person or online, and they can work in a variety of ways.

For Shades of Pink Foundation (SOPF), October is a time to honor the millions of lives affected by breast cancer and reaffirm our commitment to easing the financial burden for those undergoing breast cancer treatment in Southeast Michigan by providing prompt funding for daily living expenses. Every journey matters.
