Macomb Mustangs “PIN
K OUT” for Shades of Pink Foundation
You might consider it divine intervention but Kathy Negro came to us through a visit to her doctor’s office, saw us on television (Fox 2 news) and then she was hooked. In less than six weeks she and the Macomb Mustangs football family pulled off a great “Pink Out” weekend. The cheerleaders and football players sported donated pink jerseys, and, in return, parents were asked for a donation to Shades of Pink. They spent two full days at a booth for all 7 games, selling mini footballs, pins, and tattoos. They sold pink lemonade, pink cupcakes and suckers at their refreshment stand. The stadium was decorated with a large balloon arch and balloons throughout the stadium. Breast cancer survivors were honored at the coin toss for every game and a balloon release at half time. Karen Bourlier, President for Shades of Pink attended a football game to pick up the check and was stunned to learn that they raised $4000 for our very special women. Thank you so much to Kathy & Ken Negro and the Macomb Mustang family for supporting the mission of the Shades of Pink Foundation in such a fun and generous way. Hope we can do this again next year.

For the fourth year in a row the Shades of Pink Foundation started out Breast Cancer Awareness Month in partnership with Lolly Ella Jewelry in West Bloomfield. The day started early at Fox 2 News with Karen Bourlier, President, Pamela Stauch, Lolly Ella being interviewed by Deena Centofanti. We were able to share the story of the Shades of Pink foundation while going through a great display of the latest jewelry trends. Back at the store a line was forming – customers waiting to support Shades of Pink with the purchase of a special breast cancer bracelet and many other great jewelry pieces and accessories. A percentage of the day’s sale and proceeds from the bracelet is coming to support the foundation. Thanks to Pamela, Erica, Michelle, Danielle, Janet, Don and Chris for putting together such a great day. Can’t wait to start planning our five year event!

Southgate Figure Skating Booster club has a banquet each year and picks a charity to support. This year SFSBC picked the Shades of Pink Foundation to honor a wonderful young lady, Dianna Mims. She is the sister of Deanna Dembrosky, the aunt of Carson, a skater and a friend to many of the members of the club. When we started planning the banquet Dianna was in a two year battle of fighting breast cancer. Last spring Dianna, along with her niece Tiffany and friends walked at the Shades of Pink zoo walk. Unfortunately this year Dianna was too weak to walk at the zoo and her family and friends walked in the cold rainy day for her. This banquet was all set for May 4th. We wanted to honor Dianna for her fight with the terrible disease, but sadly on May 1st, Dianna lost her battle. She was only 33 years old. SFSBC had the banquet. We made pink hair flowers to sell and members made donations in Dianna’s name. We made $1150 and we are giving it to Shades of Pink in memory of Dianna Mims, a wonderful woman we lost too young.
